Victoria's 1930's Pinwheel Quilt

When I saw this quilt in a the Summer 1998 Quick Quilts magazine (Yesterday's Pinwheels), with the 1930's fabrics, I knew I had to make it. Then when I found out that I had a new niece on the way, I knew that it would be the quilt for her.

This is how it looked in the magazine. Although I knew it was pretty, I thought it needed a little bit of work. Instead of using the pink border, I decided on a buttery yellow. I think the combination of colors (with the yellow) is a lot stronger. I buttonhole-stitch appliquéd the stars around the outside in contrasting colors, and I've actually started quilting now!

May 21, 2000 - I pin-basted the top, batting and backing together, and started the quilting in the center.

October 12, 2000 - The quilting is completed except for within the border now. I plan to finish this up in time for Christmas 2000.

November 4, 2000 - All that is left is to attach the binding. Looks like I'll make my deadline!

November 28, 2000 - over the holiday weekend, I worked on a few cross-stitch projects, and finally started on the binding. It is about 3/4 done now, and the finished look is lovely.

December 3, 2000 - It is done! Yippee!!! And here are the photos:

Completely handquilted, it's done!
