1999 - Rail fence quilt top pieced, not yet quilted

Rail Fence quilt top

One of the best things about this quilt (besides the colors is that I can look at the diagonal rows and associate different memories with the fabrics. I made this quilt top after I created Delaney's 1930's quilt, largely out of fabrics left over from other quilts I had made (and some fabrics I just really liked that I had purchased either fat quarters or half-yards, etc.). For example, the darkest navy blue was used as the binding in CC's quilt. Looking at the row beneath that, the orange-y/peachy fabric was used in Delaney's quilt. The bright red was used in Christopher's quilt, and the darker blue near the bottom left corner was used in Allison's quilt. That's just to name a few. The pansies fabric in the middle was just because I love pansies and thought it was so pretty.

March 17, 2006: I have taken my quilt, along with backing and batting, to the Quilter's Attic in Goodlettsville, and I'm having it machine-quilted. I can't wait to get it back and use it!!

March 23, 2006: I picked up my quilt, and I must say the machine quilting by Linda Gray is gorgeous. As soon as I figure out what fabric I'm going to use for binding and attach it, I'll update with a new photo. I'm so excited to be that close to actually using MY quilt!

This photo shows the quilting pattern pretty well - sunflowers

And here I have started attaching the binding - a semi-neutral floral, which should go well with all of the fabrics in the quilt.

And here is the backing - a floral flannel I fell in love with, and it really matches the binding nicely too.
