Christopher's Bear Chase Quilt

This will be my nephew Christopher's "big" quilt. The pattern is from Glad Creations. I plan to make it with homespun plaids.
January 21, 2007 - I have finished all of the cutting for this quilt, and I've started just a tiny bit of piecing, just to see how it is going to look. Here is the first bear paw block (actually, this will most likely be the block on his quilted pillow) partially pieced, then fully pieced (and a little washed-out looking).

February 10 piecing

April 16-20 Vacation piecing
Just before my vacation, I realized that I had incorrectly pieced the claws onto the paws in the four blocks that I had put together. They were not supposed to match the paw, so on April 17, while watching several episodes of 24, I 'unsewed' them.

April 18 - a day of piecing half-square triangles and getting them into the claw units

April 19 - Bear Paw units!

April 20 - The Bear Paw blocks are finished (20 + 1 for a pillow), and I've started assembling the sashing units.

May 14 - Assembly of all the pieces into a quilt top has begun! The quilt top is approximately 40% complete at this point.
May 16 - Assembly of the quilt top is complete, and I am very pleased with the result.
Now it's time to piece the backing fabric and send it off to the quilter.
This is the backing fabric I plan to use

July 1: It's back from the quilter's, and Pam Thorne quilted this one for me, in a spiral square pattern. I really think it fits the quilt perfectly, accentuating the bear claws. Now all that's left is to assemble and attach the binding.

And here is a pillow I made to go with his quilt
September 15, 2007: I finally got around to making and attaching the binding, finishing Christopher's Bear Chase quilt.
