63 Squares Afghan

63 Squares crochet alongI was browsing around different blogs and actually found some crochet blogs! I noticed that several people had decided to have a crochet along on the 63 Easy-To-Crochet Pattern Stitches Combine To Make an Heirloom Afghan.

63 Easy-To-Crochet Pattern Stitches Combine To Make an Heirloom Afghan, Leisure Arts booklet #555

As you can see from the photo, the original pattern calls for ecru, green, and pink (rose) yarn. And though those colors are pretty, they're just not my style. When I went to buy my yarn, I was thinking that either more jewel-tones or autumn colors would work better for me. Well, I couldn't choose just 3. I picked up the dark plum and gold first, and loved that combination. When I added just one other color, the palette just fell flat though. So I picked up the claret and windsor blue. And then I thought that a green would probably round out the palette nicely, but it had to be the right shade of green. Sage would not work, and I thought that hunter green was too dark. I found some 3 oz. skeins of the green that complemented best, and so picked up artichoke. Here they all are, just waiting to be started!
