Update May 27, 2005: I'm still working on the afghan I started way back on March 31, 2004 (I joined a crochet-along!). Below is the first square, and I've recently finished square #53 - over 3/4 of the way there! Click on the photo to learn more about this project and the crochet along.

November 27, 2004: Finally a photo of my finished Sweet Dreams Doily:

August 29, 2004: I finally finished my Victorian Rose doily! I also finished the doily I started the day before - August doily!

March 20, 2004: I finished a baby afghan for my new nephew!

September 27, 2003: I took a knitting class from my LNS Saturday and learned how to cast on, knit (but not purl), and bind off. I immediately went home and began a small project (instead of the scarf from the class) to practice on - a knitted dishcloth.

My grandmother taught me the basics of how to chain and single crochet when I was young. I made her a pincushion, but then lost interest in crocheting for a while.

I picked up a book that my mom had on how to crochet sometime around 1993 and started playing with it again. With it, and a couple of books from the library, I taught myself additional crochet stitches and decided (when we found out my sister-in-law was pregnant) to make an afghan for the baby. I am still amazed by how well it turned out, considering that I didn't know much about gauge (and still don't pay as much attention to that as I probably should). I chose a shells pattern, and crocheted it with a solid, soft yellow yarn, since we weren't completely sure the baby would be a girl. Since then, I have enjoyed making afghans for all of my family, myself, and a few friends.

I also learned thread crochet, around 1996. I made crocheted coaster sets for Christmas presents one year, and I've made several doilies. I prefer doilies which have color changes, but I've also made several solid-colored ones.
